Music and Law: The Enduring Effect

Mary Healy

Mary Healy

Like many of us, Mary Healy’s first orchestral experience came through classic Saturday morning cartoons. While attending elementary school in northern Kentucky she saw the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra every chance she could through a children’s school program that offered discounted tickets.

During the late 1960s, Mary was in junior high school, and she was going to become an attorney, a rare aspiration for a young woman at that time.

Occasionally, while studying at the University of Cincinnati, Mary attended CSO concerts, then the business of life took over and free time was at a premium.

Mary attended Chase College of Law and worked full time for what is now the U.S. Bank Trust Department. It was during this employment that inspiration struck. Mary realized through her law career that she would help others design their estate plans to fit their needs and wants. This was also when Mary decided she would include the CSO in her estate plan.

The CSO came back into Mary’s life when her daughter was a student at the University of Cincinnati and started inviting Mary to attend concerts regularly. It was soon after her daughter’s college graduation that Mary purchased a Friday-evening CSO subscription, which gave her a way to unwind after a long week and start the weekend off right.

Then in the late 1990s, Mary was invited by Rhonda Moore to serve on the CSO’s Planned Giving Committee. It was through her CSO service that she learned the ins and outs of the Orchestra and how crucial legacy gifts, like her own, are to the financial health of the endowment and the advancement of the CSO.

We’d be happy to talk with you about how your legacy gift, like Mary’s, will strengthen and advance our mission far into the future. Contact Kate Farinacci at kfarinacci@cincinnatisymphony.org or 513.744.3202 to get started.
